Lent 2017 – Day Nineteen

An unbeliever get to know what the love of God is all about when a follower of Jesus Christ exhibits that love through doing good to everyone. The verse does not say we should do good to only members of our family or our friends or members of our church but to every single person. You see, when God showed us how much He loved the world, He did not limit His love to only His chosen people – the Jews – but then His love was made available for everyone. The verse also points out when we ought to do good to everyone. It states that whenever we have the opportunity we should do good. This means that we must do good at every given opportunity and not when we feel like it.

Lent 2017 – Day Eighteen

The name is Jesus, and it is through Him and only Him that we are saved. The verse is true when it says that salvation is found in no one else but Jesus. Indeed, the starting point of salvation is believing that Jesus is the son of God and that He came to die for our sins and that through this act of love, we are reconciled to the Father. The Scriptures tell us that if we believe the foregoing statement and confess it with our lips/mouths then we are saved. That is the starting point of our relationship with God. We become new men. Let us remember this fundamental basis of salvation and share it with every unbeliever this Lenten season.

Lent 2017 – Day Seventeen

Every day has its own worries or troubles. But we are encouraged by this verse to take one day at a time and not to worry about tomorrow because tomorrow has its own troubles. I believe that since we are given enough grace to overcome the troubles of today, we will be given enough grace to overcome the troubles of tomorrow. The preceding verses explain how God provides from those who have no means of providing for themselves and how those who seek Him and His righteousness first, get all other things added to them. Therefore, if we do not want to worry about tomorrow, then we have to seek God and His righteousness first.

Lent 2017 – Day Sixteen

This verse is so ironic and contrary to what we may have always believed. Wise people take advice? I would have thought that wise people rather give advice and because they have such great wisdom, what kind of advice will they listen to? But interestingly, people become wise when they listen to advice. However, it is not all advice that will make you wise – it is godly advice that makes you wise. By godly advice, I mean, advice that is grounded in the word of God. On the other hand, you fail to seek advice, you will not be considered a wise person. The verse says, “Fools are headstrong and do what they like; wise people take advice.” If you are fond of doing what you like because you think you are wise, then take heed because in the eyes of the Bible you are a fool.

Lent 2017 – Day Fifteen

I have come to learn and accept that God is perfect and His way is perfect. If we want to walk in God’s way then we must strive for perfection. Yes, I know we are not perfect but God’s word in us and His abundant grace, enables us to walk in the way of God. The word of the Lord is proven because it has been in existence for many centuries and has stood the test of time. The word of God is the one book that does the same thing it did many, many, years ago. It is consistent and never changing. God is also a shield to those who trust Him. When we put our trust in God, through His word, He assures us of His protection and mercies. As the Scripture says, He is a shield to all who trust Him. If the Lord is my shield, I have nothing to worry about or be afraid of.
