Cloud Of Witnesses

On Friday, 26 August 2016, I shared the word of God at a Methodist Youth Camp in Aburi on the topic, “Jesus, our focus: the young Methodist in a fast changing world.” The anchor verse was Hebrews 12:1-2 and as I ministered, I learnt a lot about running the race of faith. And what I found out was amazing.

We have a cloud of witnesses including Abel, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, David, cheering us on to win the race. They want us to win the race and do you know why? Because without us winning, they cannot reach perfection and they need to reach perfection. This is what Hebrews 11:39-40 says:

“All these people earned a good reputation because of their faith, yet none of them received all that God had promised. For God had something better in mind for us, so that they would not reach perfection without us.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭11:39-40‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Wouldn’t you want to reach perfection with all the people of faith mentioned in the Bible? I know I would. So my prayer is for God to give me that endurance I need to run the race of faith and finish it for His glory.

I will share my article on running the race of faith shortly.

  1. To me, there are two definitions of witness, one is like an audience of a sporting event – they watch from the stands and cheer. Another is one who gives testimony in court swearing to what they have seen and heard – I think the witnesses aren’t by-standers, but ones who are active, who whisper from history that because of their stories we can be sure that God is working in our story.
