Lent 2017 – Day Twenty-Four

This verse is a reality check and at the same time gives us assurance of the Lord’s victory over the world. Many are the struggles that we go through in this world on a daily basis. Some of the troubles that come our way are self inflicted. Others, we have no idea where they came from. In this verse, Jesus is telling His disciples that trouble will come their way because they are living in this world. But then He does not leave it there; He tells them to take heart. In other words, they should be encouraged, be confident, be courageous – why? Because He has overcome the world. If Jesus has overcome the world, then why should the troubles in the world overcome you?

I pray that you will take heart when trouble comes your way.

Lent 2017 – Day Twenty-Three

It is such a good thing to know that the Lord hears your voice. In fact, it is one of the reasons why the Psalmist loves the Lord. We are talking about the creator of heaven and earth, and everything in it. The all powerful God that we read about in the Bible. For me, the Lord hearing my voice is a big deal and it is nothing compared to the President hearing my voice. And in this country, when the President hears your voice, it means you are a “big man”. Not only does the Lord hear our voices, he also hears our prayer for mercy. We need mercy from God because of all the things we do everyday. Without God’s mercy, we will be finished because we are not always faithful to God and we give the devil room to plan against us. However, when God is merciful to us, we must also show mercy to others.

Lent 2017 – Day Twenty-Two

Who do you call on when you are in trouble? This is full of troubles and it is guaranteed that everyone who passes through this world will encounter some form of trouble. The question is: who do you rely on when you go through those times of trouble? The Psalmist says that his refuge in times of trouble is the Lord. A fortress is a stronghold,(usually used by the military) that cannot be penetrated. You are safe when you are within your stronghold. Times of trouble are opportunities for the devil to attack our faith. It is therefore important for us to seek refuge in the Lord because the devil cannot go where the Lord is, and he certainly cannot destroy your faith when we are in the Lord.

Lent 2017 – Day Twenty-One

If your freedom to move around without restriction has ever been curtailed then you will appreciate what it means to be free from bondage. In fact, you will do whatever you can to ensure that you do not go back into bondage. Once upon a time, we were all slaves to the law but God being the loving Father that He is, sent His only son to come and set us free from the bondage of the law. Now, we have grace and Scripture tells us that we should stay free and not get ourselves into the position that we were before Jesus Christ came and died for us.

Lent 2017 – Day Twenty

John 3:36 confirms God’s promise of eternal life. To access and enjoy this promise of God, one must believe in the son of God – Jesus Christ. The verse does not specify who must believe in Jesus Christ but simply says that anyone who believes in Jesus Christ shall have eternal life. Therefore, the background of a person cannot be a hindrance to receiving eternal life so long as that person’s belief is placed in Jesus Christ. There is no discrimination among those who place their belief in Jesus Christ. Murderers, rapists, armed robbers, and all kinds of people will enjoy this promise of eternal life when they believe in Jesus Christ. On the other hand, if your belief is not in Jesus Christ then you will not receive eternal life. This is the gospel and I encourage you to share it with many people as you can.
