Lent 2017 – Day Fourteen

It is only that which is within you that can flow out of you. The Scriptures have declared that rivers of living water will flow from the heart of the one who believes in Jesus. In other words, to have living water flowing from your heart, you must believe in Jesus. In fact, Jesus has extended an open invitation to us. He says we should come to Him and drink. He is the source of living water – water that gives life and hope to both believers and non-believers. As Christians, our attitude needs to draw people to God and one way we can do that is if we have living water flowing from our hearts. Let us accept the invitation from our Lord Jesus Christ and go to Him and fill ourselves with living water.

Lent 2017 – Day Thirteen

God remains the strength of my heart” is such a powerful declaration that everyone needs to make or say all the time. Why do I say that? Well, the heart plays a critical role in your body. In fact, the reason you are alive is because your heart is functioning properly – your heart is beating properly and circulating blood around your body for your other organs to work. If your heart stops then you are dead. Thus, if God is the strength of your heart then it means God is at the centre of your very existence. He is in the middle of everything that causes you to exist. And not only that, He strengthens your existence through His power. The full verse is even more beautiful. It states: “My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; He is mine forever.” This verse reminds us to always trust in the Lord because He is faithful.

Lent 2017 – Day Twelve

Envy and selfish ambition are recipes for disorder and evil practices. When we are envious or jealous of things that have been given to others, we lose focus of what we have been given. We have all been created with different gifts and talents, and we are expected to use our gifts and talents to fulfill God’s purpose for our lives and to minister to others. Selfish ambition distracts us from ministering to others and we end up focusing on just ourselves. God did not give us gifts and talents for us to use for ourselves but to be used to serve other people. James makes it clear that where envy and selfish ambition exist, you will find disorder and every evil practice. This is true because when we are jealous of the gifts and talents that others have, and want those gifts for ourselves, we resort to all kinds of evil means to get those gifts and talents. Disorder will be present because we will not be following God’s order and we will not be focused on what God wants us to do. Let us all eschew envy and selfish ambition and be willing to serve each other with our gifts and talents.

Lent 2017 – Day Eleven

This Scripture encourages us to have strength in the Lord and in His mighty power. This implies that it is possible to be in the Lord and still be weak. The Christian journey is a continuous one and does not end just because you are saved or become born again. In fact, that is when it all begins. The enemy puts a target on your back and you are attacked continuously until you give up your faith. But we are encouraged by our brother Paul to be strong in the Lord because if we have strength in the Lord, we can overcome every situation or attack. We become strong in the Lord when we pray without ceasing and we abide in His word.

Be strong in the Lord today.

Lent 2017 – Day Ten

It is good to have knowledge but when you know that the Lord is with you, then you have the best knowledge. Life has many challenges and everyday something new is thrown at us in the name of difficulty. We may feel overwhelmed and think that we cannot overcome our challenges and troubles that come at us. But guess what, if you have the Lord in your corner, then you have nothing to be afraid of. One of my greatest fear is that the presence of God will leave me or that the Spirit of the Lord will depart from me. But this verse reassures me that the Lord is always with me and that I have nothing to fear.

I pray that the Lord’s presence will always be with you.
