Lent 2017 – Day Five

Our praise to God must be with an upright heart. We cannot praise God with a heart that is filled with sin and unrighteousness. God hears the cry of the righteous and answers them when they call on Him. Thus, when you praise God, you must do so with a righteous heart. The Psalmist tells us that we have an upright heart when we learn the righteous rules of the Lord. This means that we must learn the rules of the Lord and apply those rules to our lives. The rules of the Lord are righteous because they renew our minds and cleanse our hearts of all unrighteousness. When we have the word of God in our hearts then we are in a position to praise our Father in Heaven. Keep praising God with a righteous heart.

Lent 2017 – Day Four

Our relationship with God is supposed to be a two way street but often times, it is not – it is God loving us and we not loving Him back. Loving God requires obedience to the teaching of His son, Jesus Christ. In other words, we cannot say we love God when we are consciously and constantly disobeying His laws. Even when we disobey God’s laws, He is willing to forgive us but only if we confess our sins. God will love us back when we love Him. In fact, He loves us even when we do not love Him. The promise in this verse just brightens my life. Jesus assures us that they (God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit) will come to those who love Him (that is those who obey Him) and make Their home with them. Wouldn’t you want to have the Godhead living with you and going everywhere with you? I know I do.

Father, show me how to love you more than I do. Point out the areas where I fall short of obeying the teachings of Your Son. Come and make Your home with me. In Jesus name, Amen.

Lent 2017 – Day Three

This morning, I read in the Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren that we need “hope to cope.” I totally agree with that saying. Human beings are engineered to have hope. Without hope we cease to exist. You have got to have hope. But what is important is what your hope is in. My hope is in God. When our hope is in God, we can rejoice. Even when we go through problems, trials and tribulations, we can be patient because we know that God knows the end from the beginning. In fact, He is the beginning and the end. In addition to being patient, we must pray constantly. What that means is that we must be in prayer all the time and pray about everything. We must give thanks, bring our petitions and burdens to God.

Let us pray always, be patient in tribulation and rejoice in the hope we have in God, our Father.

Lent 2017 – Day Two

Satan is excited when the Church is divided. The Church is the body of Christ and His lawful representative on earth. Let’s use the example of our human bodies for illustration: when we decide to do something or go somewhere, all parts of the body play along. Your arm will not say I will do this and your feet will not say I will do that. They all work together to achieve the goal you want. In the same way, our brother Paul calls on us to eschew divisions in the body of Christ. Let’s have one mind – the mind of Christ. When we have that one mind, we will be united in our thinking and purpose. Remember, united we stand, divided we fall.

Have a blessed day, and may the Lord give you strength to fast today. God bless you.

Lent 2017 – Day One

Good morning! It’s #AshWednesday!

As we begin the Lenten season, let’s wait for the Lord to renew our strength and build our faith. Waiting for God requires bravery and courage, because during the waiting period, our faith is tested and made stronger. But, when we patiently wait for the Lord to move, He moves and when He moves, the rewards are great.

Dear Lord, strengthen my spirit and soul to be able to wait for you during this Lenten period. Amen.
